Bridging the Gap

This committee "bridges the gap" for alcoholics just getting out of treatment who want to continue in AA. The patient of the facility requests a committee member to meet with him/her at an outside AA meeting. The purpose is to help these newcomers find their way to meetings and feel more connected when they get there. This is also an excellent opportunity to define difference between Alcoholics Anonymous and treatment and/or therapy.

Cooperation with the Professional Community

This committee contacts the professional who through his workplace comes into contact with the alcoholic and informs them that Alcoholics Anonymous exists, how to contact us, as well as what AA is and is not. This may include medical and treatment professionals, clergy, lawyers, law enforcement officials, and school officials. This committee stresses singleness of purpose, does not give drunk-a-loges, and does not endorse nor oppose any causes.

Cooperation with Treatment Facilities

This committee takes meetings into treatment facilities and carries the AA message to the alcoholic who still suffers there. They share their experience, strength, and hope. This is an excellent opportunity for the newcomer to get involved with twelfth step work, though it is advised that they attend in the company of someone who has some time and experience. This committee also takes panels into new facilities and through videos, talks, and informational literature informs them that Alcoholics Anonymous exists, how to contact AA, and what AA is and is not.

Picnic

Intergroup's annual picnic will need committee members and volunteers. We have a lot of fun and enjoy the benefit of serving the AA community and of course staying sober. We are currently engaged in preparations for the picnic and are seeking members who are available for service. Open and print our picnic committee flyer for yourself and others to begin the process for service work.
